According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Japan will have to speed up its pace on emissions cut by quickening the development of low-carbon technologies, getting out from regulatory barriers, and becoming more competitive in the energy industry.

Japan still has a high dependence on fossil fuels although the sources of renewable energy are gradually increasing. Therefore, the IEA said that Japan needs to raise its investment in clean energy opportunities so as to achieve the decarbonization goal before 2050.

Japan is currently working to review its 2030 energy policies to meet the aim set for 2050, which was expected to catch attention on renewable energy and a clearer policy of nuclear.
