The EU has extended the current anti-dumping (AD) measures on imports of grain-oriented flat-rolled products of silicon-electrical steel (GOES) originating in China, Russia, the US, Japan, and South Korea for another five years, which was welcomed by the European Steel Association (EUROFER).

EUROFER said that GOES, an important component to produce transformer cores, is a highly specialized steel product Only around 20 mills in the world can produce this kind of product, four of which are located in the European Union. Therefore, this steel product is essential for the maintenance and expansion of the EU electrical grid, as well as the development of the e-mobility sector.

Axel Eggert, the Director General of EUROFER, said that GOES is a strategic, high-end product, and the EU shouldn’t rely on the supply from other foreign sources, including Asian countries, Russia, and the US.
