The EU agreed to establish partnerships with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia at the EU Global Gateway Forum.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is a major producer of cobalt, copper, tantalum, and other minerals, and Zambia is a major copper producer. The EU thinks these materials are key to achieving green and clean energy goals. In the future, they will strengthen cooperation in the research and development of sustainable and responsible raw materials, integration of key raw material value chains, and improvement of rail transport connections in West Africa, but they didn’t announce specific actions or funding.

In addition, the Lobito Corridor as an infrastructure project was approved that can connect parts of the southern Democratic Republic of Congo and northern Zambia to the Angolan port of Lobito.
