Chinese total imports of bauxite in August were 9.04 million tons, down 6 % from July because of the African rainy season, but still up as much as 14 % from a year earlier, according to Chinese customs data.

As of August, China imported 75.06 million tons of bauxite, 30% more than the same period last year.

In August, 3.64 million tons of bauxite was imported from Guinea, down almost a fifth from July, but still the largest importer in that month. Australia's imports of bauxite rose nearly 8% in August to 3.63 million tons, effectively making up for the shortfall in Guinea's imports. Indonesia was ranked third, by imported 1.13 million tons in August, down 14% month on month.
