Peru’s iron ore production slightly drops in Q1 y-o-y

According to the data from the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), Peru produced a total of around 3.5 million tons of iron ore in the first quarter of this year, slightly falling by 0.8% compared to the same period a year ago.

Among them, the production of Shougang Hierro Perú, the largest domestic iron ore producer, accounted for the largest proportion at roughly 3.4 million tons.

In March alone, Peru’s iron ore production was up by 8.5% month on month but fell by 0.2% year on year to 1.2 million tons, of which Shougang Hierro Perú’s output occupied around 1.2 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 9% and a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%.
