Malaysia imposes AD duties on tinplate imports from 4 countries

Malaysia will impose anti-dumping (AD) duties on tinplate imports from China, India, Japan, and South Korea for five years, effective May 11, 2025 from to May 10, 2030.

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) concluded an investigation, finding that these countries were exporting the product at prices lower than the fair value, causing injury to Malaysia's domestic industry.

The AD duties range from 4.48% to 20.42% for China, 27.88% for India, 15.74% to 36.80% for Japan, and 21.60% to 35.43% for South Korea.

This determination followed an investigation initiated in August 2024 after a petition lodged by local company Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Berhad. MITI expects these AD duties to counter unfair trade practices.

The products involved are flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel of a width of 600mm or more, clad, plated, or coated with tin (electrolytic tinplate or tinplate), classified under HS codes 7210.11.90 00 and 7210.12.90 00.
