Brazilian mining giant Vale had completed the construction and commissioning of Canada’s Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion (VBME) Project. The expansion project converted Voisey’s Bay from open-pit mining to underground mining.

Thanks to the completion of the expansion project and the improvement of the operating base, the company's nickel production would continue to increase. By 2030, nickel production was expected to increase to around 210,000 to 250,000 tons.

In addition to increasing nickel production, the VBME Project would also increase copper production by 20,000 tons and cobalt production by 2,600 tons annually.

This expansion project was crucial for Vale to enhance its business competitiveness in Canada.
