Indian steel industry continued to expand its production capacity with the support by the government. The Indian government was expected to develop India into a global steel giant, and the domestic blast furnace in India was also increasing.

At present, the largest blast furnace in India was the Angul plant belonging to JSW Steel with a capacity of 4,554 cubic meters. The Indian state-owned mining company also owned a 4,506-cubic-meter blast furnace in Chhattisgarhis, which will become Indian second-largest capacity blast furnace once it began operations this month.

JSW Steel was currently accelerating the construction of Indian largest blast furnace with a total capacity of 5,358 cubic meters, and planned to start operations in 2019.

Indian iron ore imports reached 10 million tons in 2015, which once caused market worries. Although it declined slightly during the period, it has rebounded to around 6.8 million tons in May this year. At present, Indian annual import volume record exceeded 2015, reaching 15 million tons.
