According to statistics released by the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), Ukraine’s steel mills purchased a total of 1.1 million tons of scrap in the first four months of this year, growing by 22.3% compared to the same period a year ago.

However, due to the increases in steel prices and global demand, Ukraine's steel mills were expected to purchase fewer scraps this year compared to 2020.

In the first four months of 2021, Ukraine’s scrap exports amounted to 87,000 tons, up by 7.5 times year on year. The imports had a year-on-year increase of 1.3 times to 7,800 tons.

This year, Ukraine’s scrap exports were expected to increase by 67-123% year on year to 60,000-80,000 tons, and the imports will grow by 13-89% to 30,000-50,000 tons.
