It’s reported that Yemen's Mukalla Iron and Steel planned to launch its steel production at its Hadramout Iron and Steel plant in June 2012.

The new production would be able to produce rebar with sizes from 8mm~32mm, wire rod with sizes from 10mm~50mm and structure steel with sizes up to 120mm after the first pilot runs testing.

However, the company decided to postpone an electric steelmaking complex and a bar and rod mill multiple times due to the political instability in the country and it also affected the SMS Group Germany to complete the production testing before to leave the country.

The company expected the situation would be able to solve right after the presidential elections.
