According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled 135.7 million tons in December last year, falling by 6.3% compared to the previous month and by 5.3% year on year.

Among them, Asia's crude steel production reached 96.4 million tons, dropping by 10% year on year, of which China's output accounted for 67 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15%. The crude steel production from 27 EU countries was 9 million tons, hiking by 3% year on year.

During the period, North American crude steel output was roughly 9 million tons, up by 5.3% year on year; South American output was 3.2 million tons, falling by 3.2% year on year.

Crude steel production in Africa was up by 18% year on year to nearly 2 million tons, and the output in the Middle East climbed by 9.6% year on year to 4.9 million tons.

In the whole year of 2023, global crude steel production amounted to approximately 1.9 billion tons, a slight year-on-year decline of 0.1%.
