It was reported that US rebar market is impacted and modifying for the fact that Gerdau Long Steel North America has completed the deal of selling its four rebar mills and thirty-four rebar fabrication locations to Commercial Metals Company (CMC).

According to KeyBanc analyst, CMC could obtain additional annual rolling capacity of 2.5 million short tons and 2.7 million short tons of melt capacity after this deal.

The merging business of Gerdau and CMC made the market players reduce from four to three: CMC, Steel Dynamics Inc. and Nucor. It would take some time for buyers and employees to adjust to the transaction changes. Most market buyers hold an optimistic attitude and expect the price could be more “disciplined” in US rebar market.
