Turkish minister of economy, NihatZeybekci, recently said that President Donald Trump announced last month that a 25% tariff on all imported steel and a 10% tariff on all imported aluminum products was unacceptable to Turkey.

Turkish exported large quantities of aluminum products to the global market every year. Assan Aluminium was a leading manufacturer of flat rolling products in Turkey. The company was founded in 1988 and its products were mainly aluminum flat products, such as aluminum roll, sheet and aluminum foil. Assan Aluminium's output accounted for more than half of the output of Turkish aluminum flat rolling products, and its products were exported to 70 countries and regions worldwide.

Turkey exported around 198,000 tons of aluminum materials to the global market in 2016, and the total value of exports amounted to around US$6 billion.

It was estimated that the export volume of Turkey would increase to around 200,000 tons in 2018. It was also estimated that in the first 10 months of 2018, Turkey would export around 196,000 tons of aluminum to the global market.

For the US, Turkey exported around 3,200 tons and 3,800 tons of aluminum to the US in 2016 and 2017, respectively. It was expected that Turkey would export around 6,000 tons of aluminum to the US in 2018.

Turkish exports to the US were relatively small, and its aluminum products were mainly exported to European countries. This showed that the exports of Turkish aluminum products would not be greatly influenced by the US' import tariffs.
