Taiwan will officially charge carbon fees in 2025, and the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will also impose carbon tariffs on imported goods in 2026.

By then, export-oriented Taiwanese factories will face the pressure of domestic carbon fees and the EU's carbon tax. Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) stated that according to EU regulations, Taiwan's carbon fees can be redeemed for CBAM certificates.

In addition, manufacturers hope the carbon rights purchased through the carbon exchange can also offset against CBAM certificates. However, the EU continues to negotiate with many countries and has not finalized the deal.
