Taiwan's top trade negotiator and the minister John Deng said Taiwan was still striving for exemption from US tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, and he also has conveyed Taiwan's government policy to boost local steel production to lower the content of China-made steel in Taiwan's steel products that local manufacturers sold to the US market.

In a press conference, John Deng said that Taiwan still held the goal of being granted a national exemption from Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs, and the US was making an internal considerations about the matter.

Taiwan has the greatest delegation with 60 people representing 120 businesses in the SelectUSA Investment Summit.

The US has called on all countries to cooperate with the US and lodged complaints against China’s violation of intellectual property rights. John Deng said that Taiwan has also offered support for the US and that China’s measures did not respect intellectual property rights and violate the WTO’s intellectual property rights agreement.
