According to statistics, South Korea imported 721 thousand tons of scrap in October, decreased by 12.8% year on year and dropped by 6.3% from September.

In addition, the country imported 7.158 million tons of scrap in the first ten months of this year, increased by 3.7% in comparison of that in the same period of last year.

Among them, 2.453 million tons were imported from the US, down by 0.9%; 2.332 million tons were from Japan, decreased by 19.2%; 772 thousand tons were from Russia, surged by 22.1%, all compared to that in the same period of last year.

Accordingly, it’s estimated that the country’s scrap imports would reach 8.59 million tons in 2011.
