According to the report, Rio Tinto decided to invest A$3.5 billion to develop its Koodaideri iron ore project in Western Australia, including some technology such as unmanned trucks, trains and unmanned drilling. The project will be started in 2019 and was expected to be put into operation by the end of 2021. After the completion, the annual production capacity will reach 43 million tons.

In addition, the project had an iron ore processing plant and a 166-kilometer railway line that connected the Koodaideri iron mine to Rio Tinto's existing transportation network.

Rio Tinto's CEO said that the Koodaideri iron ore project will be the most technologically advanced iron ore project which Rio Tinto has developed so far, and the aim was to create highly safer, more environmentally friendly and efficient mines with high automation and digitalization.

During the development period, more than 2,000 jobs will be created and 600 long-term jobs will be created after production.
