The European Commission has approved a EUR850 million fund to support ArcelorMittal France's decarbonization of its steel production in Dunkirk. The financial support will be applied to the construction of a direct reduction plant (DRP) and two electric arc furnaces (EAF), which will replace two of the three existing blast furnaces and two of the three basic oxygen furnaces.

The installation of new DRP and EAF would be planned to be put into operation in 2026. The project was expected to reduce 70 million tons of carbon dioxide emission over the 15-year lifetime.
