Ukraine’s Donetsk Iron and Steel Works (DMZ) is attempting to expand its crude steel capacity by 50 percent to reach at 1.5 million tons annually by 2010-2011.

DMZ is one of the largest merchant pig iron producers in the CIS. The company yielded steel output of 550,000 tons of plate (5-20mm), 100,000 tons of square billet and 350,000 tons of round, hexagonal and square bar in 2007.

The new output will serve the growing local market as well as for export.
