BHP Billiton predicted that 20% of seaborne iron ore would come from Africa in 2025 if developers could complete the mining projects as scheduled.

Tony Ottaviano, the Vice President Planning Iron Ore at BHP Billiton pointed out in a meeting hold in Perth that Africa would become a main region for iron ore supply. Also, he said that BHP Billiton owned some important iron ore assets in Guinea and Libya; however, the exploration was caught by the local political issue.

At the same time, Mr. Sam Walsh, Chief executive Rio Tinto Iron Ore said that the company has invest US$700 million in the Simandou iron ore in Guinea, which was targeted to produce 95 million tons of iron ore per annum and was expected to run the operation in 2015.
