The Tshipi Borwa mining area, the largest manganese ore production area in South Africa in 2017. Jupiter Mines, an Australian miner, began the plan of production increase at the mine, which was expected to increase the production of manganese ore by 50% within 3 years.

Jupiter Mines said that the expansion was expected to be around US$72.45 million. In the 12 months before February 28th, 2019, the sales volume has exceeded the original annual sales target by 500,000 tons. Under the phased plan, the mining area was expected to reach 4.5 million tons of manganese ore exports within 3 years.

Despite the oversupply of manganese ore in the market recently, South African manganese ore producers have called on miners to reduce production to stabilize the prices, but the plan of increasing production was still launched as scheduled.
