West Virginia's Economic Development Authority and Governor Jim Justice approved US$75 million to support Nucor Corp.'s steel sheet mill in Mason County. Nucor has invested US$3.5 billion to build a recycled-content electric arc furnace (EAF) mill along the Ohio River. This marks the largest economic development project in both the state's and Nucor's history. The Mason County facility is designed to produce up to 3 million tons of sheet steel each year.

The funding will enhance infrastructure, including port upgrades and water treatment systems, benefiting Nucor and future businesses near the mill. Nucor VP Johnny Jacobs highlighted the mill's importance, stating it will produce clean, advanced steel for industries like automotive and construction starting in late 2026.
