Volvo Cars announced to enter the SteelZero initiative to reach carbon neutrality by 2040. Furthermore, it was the first automobile manufacturer to sign the agreement.

SteelZero was launched by Climate Group and ResponsibleSteel. By SteelZero, the automakers will follow stringent requirements of CO2-based steel sourcing by 2030. Besides that, the steel, which applies to cars, should be from a net-zero source by 2050.

Currently, the Volvo Car’s plants in Europe use total clean electricity, and its Torslanda plant in Sweden has reached the goal of carbon neutrality.
