The presidents of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) expressed their support for the Foreign Pollution Fee Act of 2023, which has been introduced to the US Senate by Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana.

Cassidy said that the US has eliminated more emissions than any other country over the past 15 years, and the US economy is 44% more carbon efficient than the world average.

Besides, he said that the bill was aimed at expanding international partnerships, encouraging trade between countries, securing supply chains, and isolating bad actors.

SMA president also said that solution-focused proposals like this are good for the US steel industry. The policy would encourage high-carbon-emission manufacturers to take necessary measures to reduce emissions and obtain the right to sell products in the market.
