TUIK: Turkey imports less scrap in Q1

Statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) showed that Turkey imported a total of roughly 4.7 million tons of scrap in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 12%. The import value slid by 24% year on year, reaching US$1.8 billion.

Among them, the supply from the Netherlands was the most, totaling roughly 843,000 tons, a year-on-year hike of 5%. The US and the UK ranked second and third, with roughly 776,000 tons and 458,000 tons, respectively.

In March alone, Turkey’s scrap imports amounted to roughly 1.7 million tons, down by 9.4% compared to the previous month but rising by 7% from the same month a year ago.
