Boliden, a Swedish multinational metals, mining, and smelting company, planned to resume operations at its Tara zinc mine in Ireland. The company is expected to have wage talks with around 650 employees at the operation, aiming to restore production in the second quarter of next year.

The resumption of the Tara Mines would bring impacts to the global zinc market as the mine is the largest zinc mine in Europe. Its output of zinc concentrates amounted to 198,000 tons of in 2022.

Boliden's spokesman said that the company should address the operating challenges at Tara Mines and reach an agreement with the unions for its goal of restarting the mining operations by the second quarter of 2024.
