Rio Tinto’s Kitimat aluminum smelter has resumed full production after 17 months of difficult restart following a long-term hindering by a strike in 2021.

Due to the two-month strike in 2021, the operational volume at the Kitimat smelter was significantly cut to 25%.

The smelter has reached an annual maximum production capacity of 432,000 tons, which was the first time of the achievement since 2018.
