Outokumpu supports customers in their green transition by releasing new environmental product declarations (EPDs), providing verified environmental data showing that the carbon footprint of its stainless steel products is 75% lower than the global average.

In 2023, the company helped customers reduce emissions by 12 million tons globally compared to the global average of stainless steel.

Low-carbon emission stainless steel plays a key role in the green transition. The entire steel industry accounts for about 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions but the emissions in the industry need to be reduced by 90% by 2050 compared to 2022 levels.

The published EPDs cover austenitic, ferritic, and duplex stainless steels, including cold-rolled and hot-rolled products, with a total of six documents. These EPDs are based on life cycle analysis and provide environmental impact data such as carbon emissions and resource use.

In addition, Outokumpu also provides product carbon footprint calculations, providing customers with transparent and verified data to help them calculate supply chain emissions.
