Reportedly, Japan's Nippon Steel, composed of more than 70% of the combined total of tinplate exports from Japan, has been granted (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) HACCP, an international standard for food safety control certifications on its tinplate production for containers on January 20, 2011.

Meanwhile, it's first that Japan’s steel industry to win such honor as well.

It signifies all of tinplate produced by Nippon in Japan located in Yawata, Nagoya and Hirohata including electrolytic tinplate, tin-free steel, resin laminated tin-free steel are all HACCP approved.

Due to the growing concerns over the food safety in food chains, Nippon Steel initiated the certification for food safety control in production of the containers for food and beverage for its worldwide customers.
