Mild steel rod prices in Bangladesh have increased sharply during the last few weeks. The sharp price rise is mainly due to the rising price of scrap in the international market as well as the depreciation of the local currency the Taka and inconsistent gas and power supply to re-rolling plants. The price of mild steel rod rose by Tk5, 000/ton during the last couple of weeks. The product is a used in construction. The price is expected to continue rising. (Mar. 26)
