Mexico’s automotive production saw a decline this April, with output falling compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA). Exports experienced a sharper drop, while domestic sales also registered a modest decline.
Looking at the broader picture for the first four months of the year, production remained slightly ahead of the previous year’s pace, even as exports trended downward. In contrast, local demand showed a small improvement over the same timeframe.
Mexico’s auto sector continues to be heavily export-oriented, with the US market remaining its principal destination. However, the industry is under growing pressure from US policy efforts aimed at relocating American companies' manufacturing operations back home. A recent legal decision by the US Court of International Trade, which halted proposed tariff increases on imports, is expected to provide some relief for Mexico’s vehicle exporters.
