Japan surpasses US in Taiwan's scrap imports in Apr

22 May 2025 14:55 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
According to statistics, Taiwan's scrap imports totaled around 151,800 tons in April, falling by 13% from the previous month. Among them, imports from Japan reached 60,350 tons, surpassing US imports of 55,577 tons for the first time this year.

The change came amid overall sluggish monthly imports, with only 110,000-120,000 tons in January and February before rising to over 170,000 tons in March due to the Lunar New Year holiday.

The prices of scrap imports have softened recently compared to the previous months. Despite a rebound last week, the prices remained lower than those of landed shipments in April.
