Billet prices have been rising since hitting lows in July. The price has increased to around the US$400/ton level from US$340/ton FOB because of the strong demand from the construction industry. The price from the Chinese market has been quoted at over US$400/ton CIF Vietnam and US$392 to 393/ton CRF South Korea. Presently Asia steelmakers are planning to raise their prices. Russia billets have increased to around US$410/ton while Turkish mills are trying to raise the price from US$405 to 415/ton to US$420 to 430/ton. (Sep. 8)
