According to statistics, in the first half of 2023, the global demand for primary aluminum fell by 1.5% year on year to 33.7 million tons. However, at the same time, China’s primary aluminum demand increased by 1.5% year on year to 20 million tons.

The increase might be caused by eased Zero-COVID policies, which further made China’s economy slightly resume. Meanwhile, due to factors such as high inflation, rising energy prices, and supply chain bottlenecks, the global demand, except for China, for primary aluminum has been on a downward trend for 12 consecutive months.

On the contrary, global primary aluminum supply slightly increases by 2.4% year on year in the first half of 2023 to 34.4 million tons.
