Demand for construction steel in China expected to grow by 30%

12 Mar 2025 14:37 reported by Alston Tsai

A A A
In February 2025, the weekly consumption of rebar in the Chinese market increased by 57.57% compared with the same period last year. Production lines are gradually resuming work, and coupled with the end of major government meetings and the warming weather, actual demand continues to emerge.

The actual purchase volume of  construction steel in February was 4.16 million tons, less than expected, a month-on-month decrease of 4.37%. However, market participants estimate that actual purchases in March will rise significantly by about 30%.

Judging from the March forecast, construction companies' planned purchases have increased, available inventory is low, and their willingness to replenish stock has been positive, indicating that the pessimism of related industries has eased. Increased demand for construction steel will provide certain support for the future market.
