Constellium, an aluminum producer, and TARMAC Aerosave, a specialist in aircraft and engine maintenance and transition, have announced a major achievement in sustainable aerospace innovation: successfully recycling aluminum from end-of-life aircraft into new, high-performance material suitable for future aerospace applications. This breakthrough, supported by Airbus and ValoER, demonstrates aluminum's potential for a circular economy in aviation without compromising material performance.

After extensive research, Constellium remelted aluminum recovered by TARMAC Aerosave from retired commercial aircraft, meeting stringent new aircraft manufacturing performance requirements. The next phase involves scaling this process industrially and expanding it to all aluminum alloys used in metallic aircraft.

This achievement is important for aerospace sustainability, as aluminum recycling uses 95% less energy and emits 95% less CO2 than primary production, significantly reducing the industry's carbon footprint.
