According to the report from Baker Hughes, in the week ending on January 10, 2025, the US rotary rig count dropped by five week on week to 584 units. Among them, the number of drilling rigs for natural gas fell by three to 100 units, and that for oil slid by two to 480 units. The total number had a year-on-year decline of 35 units or 6%.

During the same period, Canada’s rig count hiked by 122 to 216 units from the previous week, including 144 oil rigs (up by 100 week on week) and 72 gas rigs (up by 22 week on week). Canada’s rig number grew by three compared to the same period a year ago.
