According to the report, the Indian Steel of Ministry had advised the state governments to take appropriate measures on the interstate transport of raw materials and finished products to maintain an efficient supply chain amid COVID-19 lockdown.

The government had implemented restrictions on the operation of steel plants, transportations of raw materials and semi-finished and finished products.

Steel ministry strongly opposed the restriction on the operation of mines of raw materials for steel manufacturing such as iron ore, limestone, dolomite, thermal coal, coking coal, chromite, manganese as well as the operation of ferroalloys, sponge iron, iron ore pellet plants.

Moreover, the steel ministry also requested the state government to allow the transport of raw materials as well as semi-finished, finished products through road, rail, waterways, and sea routes.
