Global prices of low carbon ferro-chrome have continued their climbing trend.

The key factors contributing to the present situation are tight supply and soaring raw material costs. Prices of high carbon ferro-chrome, as a main raw material of low carbon ferro-chrome, have been strengthening.

South Africa’s Samancor's Ferrometal has halted its production due to an explosion in February, as around 5 months are needed for fixing the facilities. Besides, South Africa has cut its electricity supply to the metal industry. A production cut in the region is anticipated in the next few months.

Current import prices of low carbon ferro-chrome in Japan has soared to US$5~5.1/lb cif in the second quarter. The price in Europe was increased to US$5/lb in April, and continues its straight upward climb.

China’s imports of low carbon ferro-chromealso have been surging, but it may not affect the global market as home production is sufficient.
