Asian stainless producers may switch business to carbon steel

According to a market source, Asian stainless steel producers are thinking of switching business to carbon steel because the weak demand has dried up business profits.

Since current carbon steel prices are rising rapidly compared to stainless steel, it could be chance to do that.

In fact, however, Taiwan’s major stainless steel producers are showing a lack of interest in carbon steel business because it is a totally different business sector with which they lack experience at the moment.

Anyway, it is hard to predict whether nickel will continue to climb or fall in the third quarter. One thing is sure; mills will be more patient in waiting to see what will happen in the market.
