Ukraine's steel consumption falls in Q1 y-o-y

According to data from the Ukrainian steelmakers' association Ukrmetallurgprom, Ukraine reduced its consumption of steel products, including rolled products and semi-finished products, from January to March. Meanwhile, the steel production was reported to be about 610,000 tons, down by 27.3% year on year. Steel imports for the first quarter were about 208,000 tons, growing by 31.4% year on year, accounting for 41% of domestic steel consumption.

During the same period, Ukrainian steelmakers produced 1.39 million tons of rolled products in three months, increasing by 35% from the same period a year ago. Among them, exports amounted to almost 1.03 million tons, which is 161.8% higher than in the previous year. About 360,000 rolled products and semi-finished products were shipped to the Ukrainian market, which is 43% lower than in the previous year.
