According to a report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the global battery and minerals supply chain had to be expanded ten times by 2030 to fulfill the expected demand for critical minerals.

To achieve the global net carbon emissions target, the industry needed to build an additional 50 lithium mines, 60 nickel mines, and 17 cobalt mines by 2030.

By that time, nickel will face the largest demand growth since high-nickel chemistries are currently the main cathode for electric vehicles, and the situation was expected to continue.
