The demand of hot-rolled-coil (HRC) from Turkey to the EU sharply increased in the first quarter this year, especially Italy and Spain. According to the statistics, Turkish HRC exports totaled around 350,000 tons in April, significantly higher than 201,500 tons last April, but remaining constant compared to March.

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkish HRC exports to the US was zero in the first quarter, and the figure was around 11,800 tons in April.

The US downgraded tariffs on steel products from Turkey in mid-May, so Turkish HRC exports to the US were expected to be higher in May.

In addition, Turkish HRC imports plummeted in the first quarter but increased to 485,000 tons roughly in April, which went up by 18% year-on-year and noticeably higher than 262,000 tons in March.
