China-US trade war may affect Taiwanese production value in steel industry & export

22 May 2019 15:30 reported by Margaret Yeh

A A A
It was reported that the China-US trade war since May 10 might affect the production value of Taiwanese steel industry and export.

The production value of the Taiwanese steel industry in the first quarter was 4.1% lower than the previous quarter, export value was 0.8% higher than the previous quarter, and import value was 2.3% lower than the previous quarter. The production value in the first quarter slightly fell, but the overall import and export remained steady.

However, the US raised the tariffs on US$200 billion worth Chinese goods from 10% to 25%, but the country suspended to impose section 232 tariffs on aluminum and steel from Canada and Mexico on May 17.

All these strategies might substantially affect Taiwanese export competence in steel products and bring unfavorable factors to Taiwanese production value in the steel industry.
