United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) has confirmed plans to construct a new Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant at its Big River Steel Works campus in Osceola, Arkansas.

A company spokesperson said that the facility will drive their mini-mill division toward industry leadership in advanced, sustainable steel manufacturing. The plant will utilize DR-grade pellets sourced from U.S. Steel's mines and production facilities in Minnesota to produce DRI feedstock for electric arc furnaces.

The investment is expected to strengthen the company’s raw materials position and secure a reliable domestic supply chain. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with Nippon Steel.

A timeline for the construction of the new facility has not yet been announced.
