According to a post on the Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump stated that the US produced more steel than Japan in 2025, a significant milestone for the country's steel industry, as this hasn't happened in over two decades.

The US steel industry has faced numerous challenges over the years, including shifts in global demand and the rise of new technologies. However, recent reports indicate that US steel production has shown signs of recovery, benefiting in part from the post-pandemic economic recovery and also in part from tariffs up to 50% on imported steel.

The fact that the US surpassed Japan in steel production is significant from a competitive standpoint in a global context where the steel industry has become concentrated in countries like China and India, as steel remains a fundamental material in sectors such as construction, automotive, and manufacturing in general.

However, the focus on domestic production also raises questions about international trade and economic relations between the US and other countries.
