According to the statistics, the US produced around 785 million short tons of coal in 2017, which was equivalent to 715 million tons, increasing by 7.9% or 57.34 million tons from a year ago. The exports of US coal were around 94 million short tons, which was equivalent to 86.4 million tons, rising by 58% or 34.73 million short tons from last year.

As for India, its coal production in 2017 was around 711 million tons, up by 2.9% or 20 million tons from the same period of the previous year. Among them, the production from Coal India Limited (CIL) was around 550 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%; that from Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) was around 59.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.2%; that from NLC India Limited was around 25 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2%.
