US becomes Turkey’s largest scrap supplier in first four months of 2026

Turkey imported 6.59 million tons of steel scrap between January and April 2026, up by 0.4% from the same period last year. The total import value reached about US$2.5 billion, a 1.5% year-on-year increase.

The United States overtook the Netherlands to become Turkey’s largest steel scrap supplier, with shipments rising 34% to around 1.4 million tons. 

By contrast, imports from the Netherlands fell 26.6% to just over 861,000 tons, though the Netherlands and the United Kingdom remained among Turkey’s key scrap suppliers.
