In 2025, Uruguay handled around 6.65 million tons of iron ore from Brazil's Corumbá region for LHG Mining. The shipments were divided between direct exports via the Navios terminal in Nueva Palmira and transshipment operations at Punta del Arenal on the Uruguay River.

At Punta del Arenal, iron ore was transferred from barges to larger vessels at the “La Isabel” and “Potiguar” transfer stations, enabling loading outside traditional ports. Nearly 80% of the cargo was shipped to Asian markets, mainly to China, with Europe receiving the remainder.

Projections for 2026 indicate a 33% year-on-year increase, with total volume expected to reach 8.6 million tons.
