Turkey’s Tosyali weighs DRI investment to reduce scrap reliance

10 Sep 2026 08:54 reported by Carol Dong

Turkey’s steel industry is facing growing pressure to reduce its dependence on imported scrap as changes in Europe’s steelmaking structure could tighten future supply.

Turkey's Tosyali Holding believes greater use of domestic iron ore could help strengthen raw material security and is assessing whether to develop direct reduced iron capacity in Turkey. The move would support a broader shift toward ore based steel production.

Tosyali has already gained extensive experience in DRI and iron ore processing through its overseas operations, providing a technical base for potential investment in Turkey and supporting the group’s broader raw material strategy.
